Bye Bye Birdie

Often when I am out for my walk, I look into the sky and see the birds flying past me. As I watch them, they appear majestic and peaceful. They seem to fly effortlessly and represent limitless freedom. But the road to flight for them isn't always pretty.

As a baby bird, they are often forced out of their nest early in life; they are pushed into flight ready or not. And they learn how to get ready real quick....

They don't have time to think about their fears or what can potentially happen. All they know is in that moment they better start to flap those wings and take control. And it is in that moment as they are 'falling' that they learn to soar.

On some level I feel these beautiful creatures demonstrate the potential available to us if we just release our fears. Everyday we are faced and presented with opportunities that can be scary. Our gut may tell us we are not ready and we want to stay in the safety of our nest just a little bit longer. We tell ourselves we just need a little bit longer to prepare.

But like those baby birds - its time to go. Yes, taking off to fly for the first time can be scary and bring about feelings of fear. Without taking the risk of the first flight, we won’t find the internal freedom we desire. To reach our goals, We must dare to take our feet off the ground, spread our wings and soar.

This week, be bold and dare to leave the nest. Open your wings....trust that the wind will catch you and you will soar.
